Bembridge
Bembridge is situated on the east coast of the Island and is a very pretty village with a number of good places to eat and drink, very easy access to some of the Islands best beaches such as White cliff, Sandown and not to mention Bembridge Ledge itself.
Interesting places to visit include the Shipwreck and Maritime Museum, which contains many fascinating artefacts from wrecks such as U81, a German submarine sunk off the Island in 1917, also exhibits from HMS Swordfish which sank after hitting a mine off St Catherine’s Point in 1940, and many other interesting things.
The last remaining windmill on the Island is situated on the outskirts of the village, dating back to 1700, which has undergone extensive restoration and is managed by the National Trust.
The RNLI Station at Lane End, operates both Inshore and Offshore lifeboats. The station is usually open to the public for free guided tours during the summer.
The Bembridge Trail takes the walker on a 15 mile walk from Newport to Bembridge windmill through the southern part of the Chalk Downs. A 5 mile coastal walk from Bembridge to Sandown via Bembridge Down and Culver Cliffs allows walkers to enjoy some of the finest views on the Island.
